Contacting the town

Trash, recycling, street lights, and snow removal services are provided by the town.

  Trash Service

Household waste will be picked up twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays.   Collection can start as early as 7:00 A. M. When there is a holiday on the normal pickup day, the next pickup will be on the next scheduled day. All items must be placed at the curb.  There is no back-door service.

Yard waste will be picked up at the curb once a week on Mondays for the period May through November.  Yard waste goes to the Montgomery County composting center.  Acceptable yard waste will be yard trimmings, leaves and brush.  These items shall be placed in marked containers or brown biodegradable paper bags (no plastic bags).  Branches are to be cut to three foot lengths and must not be more than three inches in diameter and tied in bundles.  Yard waste cannot be placed in plastic bags and no root balls, dirt, sod, or rocks and branches larger than three feet long or three inches in diameter will be accepted.

The contractor is Montgomery County Sanitation and Recycling.

The company will supply bulk item collection for residents of the Town on an individual case by case basis year round with the resident contacting the company at (301) 605-0140.  A collection day will be established by the company with a minimum charge of $25.00 COD depending on the items collected.  This service is for emergency cases such as move outs, appliances, etc.

The contractor is not required to collect from containers that are not: (1) rigid of metal or plastic with tight-fitting overlapping lids, not exceeding 32 gallons in capacity or (2) disposable containers of heavy waterproof paper or plastic bags not exceeding 35 gallons in capacity.  Containers are furnished by residents.

Residents can call Montgomery Sanitation and Recycling, Inc. at (301) 605-0140 regarding missed pickups, extra service, compliments and complaints.  All calls will be taken care of within 24 hours.

There is no charge for Town of Laytonsville residents for waste removal in the Town except for those items referred to in the bulk item collection paragraph.  This service is provided as a part of the taxes paid to the Town.

Twice a year the town arranges for a special spring and fall cleaning trash pickup on a Saturday. Check back at this web site and look for a sign posted on the lawn in front of town hall in early the April and October timeframes for the exact Saturday pickup dates.

  Recycling Service

Recyclables (mixed paper, plastic and glass) are collected on Mondays.  Appropriate items (visit the County Web site for details) should be at curb side by 6:00 a.m.  Recycling receptacles that need replacement may be ordered through the Clerk via email or phone 301-869-0042.

  Snow Removal

Streets:  The Town contracts with a snow plowing service.  Plowing will be provided when the snowfall exceeds four inches.  The State and Montgomery County  plow and salt Route 108 and Brink/Sundown Road. By parking your vehicles off-street during snow storms will allow the plow crews to completely plow the streets.

Sidewalks:  Those residents and business with abutting sidewalks are responsible for keeping them litter free and for removing snow within twenty-four hours following the end of a snowfall.  Arrangements can be made through the Town for residents needing assistance in snow removal.  Sidewalk problems should be reported to the Clerk.

  Street Lights

If you notice a street light that is out, please look for a metal strip on the pole that has the pole number and  report location of the street light  to the Clerk.  If the pole doesn't have a pole number,  just report the location of the street light to the town clerk.
