ArtistThe water storage tank at the town hall needs some help!

The storage tank at the rear of the property at the Town Hall was once used as a storage facility by the Laytonsville Volunteer Fire Department. The tank is now in need of some tender, loving care and we are asking residents to submit their ideas to the Town Hall. We could simply paint the entire tank; paint a mural on the side of the tank; paint a “Welcome to Laytonsville” logo on the side of the tank; or leave it as it is. Please submit your thoughts to the Town Hall by writing to P.O. Box 5158, Laytonsville, MD 20882 or via email to the town clerk. Please submit your ideas no later than June 30, 2009. Thank you!

WSSC Hearing - Wednesday November 15th

WSSC will conduct a public informational meeting to discuss the specifics of plans to provide public water service to existing residential and commercial properties in addition to new homes in the Town of Laytonsville.

Laytonsville District Volunteer Fire Department Fire Hall
21400 Laytonsville Road
Laytonsville, Maryland 20882

7:00 p.m. Open House/Meet and Greet
7:30 - 8:15 p.m. Presentation
8:15 - 9:00 p.m. Questions & Answer

Due to water quality concerns, officials from the Town of Laytonsville and Montgomery County requested that WSSC conduct a preliminary study to extend water service to the Town of Laytonsville. This study, undertaken in October 1999, determined the parameters needed to provide public water service. In November 2001, the Town of Laytonsville filed an application for water service with WSSC.
The need for public water service was necessitated by petroleum and nitrate contamination found in the ground water supply. Various Montgomery County planning agencies, including the Department of Environmental Protection, concluded that connecting to the public water system will help address problems caused by ground water contamination and the lack of an available septic replacement area.
The preliminary study for proposed water service for the Town of Laytonsville indicates that due to high ground elevations, a new public potable water system with a pumping station and an elevated storage tank is required.
Attendees will learn the project history, purpose, timeline, alignments options, community and environmental impacts and community outreach.
Please note, WSSC will accept comments from the community for two weeks after the meeting. Community members may contact John Maholtz, WSSC Project Manager at 301-206-8832 or e-mail at jmaholt@wsscwater.com
