Meeting Minutes-November 20, 2006

The regular meeting of the Laytonsville Historic District Commission (HDC) was called to order by the Chair, Sheree Wenger at 7:30 p.m.  Commission members Howes, Ruspi, Shortley and Sterling were also present.

Commission member Ruspi made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 16, 2006, meeting.  Second by Commission member Howes.  The minutes were approved as presented.

Old Business

The Chair called upon Ray Varkalis, property owner, 21520 Laytonsville Rd.  Discussion continued from the October 16, 2006, regular meeting regarding HDWP 08-06, and the selection of corbel for front porch columns.  Ms. Wenger indicated she had located, via internet search, a product with a design that is an acceptable replacement for original corbels. She encouraged Mr. Varkalis to use this resource.  She stated the design was unique to the house and important to maintain.  He agreed.  Ms. Wenger questioned whether replacement columns were exact replicas of original, as stipulated in approval.  Mr. Varkalis stated there was only a minor difference.  She also inquired whether an approved change to a window on the front east elevation was properly modified.  The dimensions do not appear clear and Mr. Varkalis agreed to meet with Ms. Wenger at the site to review the changes.

New Business

The Mayor and Council have completed request for bids on construction of a pavilion to be located on Town Hall property.  They asked the HDC to review the six bids and provide input on design selection.  The Mayor and Council will select a proposal and submit an application for Historic District Work Permit.  Ms. Wenger will provide recommendation of the HDC to the Mayor and Council.

After discussion Commission members unanimously agreed to cancel the regular December meeting.

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Phyllis Sterling, Secretary
